GPRS GSM SIM900 Arduino Shield

SIM900 GSM/GPRS shield is a GSM modem, which can be integrated into a great number of IoT projects. You can use this shield to accomplish almost anything a normal cell phone can; SMS text messages, Make or receive phone calls, connect to the internet through GPRS, TCP/IP, and more! To top it off, the shield supports a quad-band GSM/GPRS network, meaning it works pretty much anywhere in the world.

The SIM900 GSM/GPRS shield is designed to surround the SIM900 chip with everything necessary to interface with Arduino, plus a few extra goodies to take advantage of the chip’s unique features.

Hardware Overview of SIM900 GSM/GPRS Shield

Features:

1. Supports Quad-band: GSM850, EGSM900, DCS1800 and PCS1900
2. Connect to any global GSM network with any 2G SIM
3. Make and receive voice calls using an external earphone & electret microphone
4. Send and receive SMS messages
5. Send and receive GPRS data (TCP/IP, HTTP, etc.)
6. Scan and receive FM radio broadcasts
7. Transmit Power: Class 4 (2W) for GSM850
8. Transmit Power: Class 1 (1W) for DCS1800
9. Serial-based AT Command Set
10. U.FL and SMA connectors for cell antenna
11. Accepts Full-size SIM Card.

Connecting SIM900 GSM/GPRS Shield to Arduino UNO:

1. To start with, connect the D7(Tx) and D8(Rx) pins on the shield to digital pins #7 and #8 on Arduino. As we’ll be using software serial to talk to the shield, make sure the jumper cap is placed on the software serial port select.

Connecting SIM900 GSM Shield to PC

1. To operate SIM900 GSM Shield directly over the PC, you need to connect it to the PC using any USB to TTL converter.
